RULES of the HORSE SHOW

  1. All must pay when entering the grounds. One exhibitor will have gate money refunded at the Secretary’s booth.
  2. The show will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
  3. No horse will be allowed in the spectator area at any time.
  4. The fall of a horse or a rider will result in disqualification.
  5. Entry fees must be paid before the horse enters the ring.
  6. The horse show committee and North Stonington Agricultural Fair, Inc., its sponsors or members will not be responsible for injury to persons or animals, for damage to or theft of the property of exhibitors or spectators.
  7. There are six ribbons and a trophy for each class (except for class 11).
  8. All games will start and stop in the ring.
  9. All riders must be properly dressed.
  10. Walk-Trot Classes are open to any beginner rider.
  11. Exhibitors shall have current rabies and coggins papers for their animals.

In Memory of George Storey Trophy

This trophy is dedicated to George Storey of Yawbux Valley Farm, North Stonington who devoted many years to the 4-H members of New London county. He is remembered for the unselfish devotion to teaching 4-H members the art of Dairy Showmanship. Mr. Storey’s definition of showmanship is the basis upon which this trophy will be awarded annually to a Connecticut 4-H member. Trophy is donated by Jason, Sue & Nicole Storey.

Definition:

  • The ability to present an animal physically fitted to the bloom of health, immaculately clean, and clipped.
  • The animal must be displayed with discipline and attention to its best advantage.
  • The 4-H owner must exemplify the art of animal husbandry; responsibilty, sportsmanship, and competitive fair play.

The four fairs an exhibitor may compete in for this trophy are: North Stonington, New London County 4-H Fair, Chester and Ledyard.

RULES FOR FITTING AND SHOWMANSHIP

  1. Any 4-H member of a New London County 4-H club is eligible to compete.
  2. The exhibitor must show his own animal.
  3. The exhibitor must compete in any three of the four fairs.
  4. Each competitor must register with the trophy secretary at each fair.
  5. The exhibitor must wear whites.
  6. Each exhibitor must prepare and care for his own animal during the length of each fair, which includes- grooming, general care and milking if necessary. He/she may have the assistance of another 4-H member or Leader only.
  7. Must be a senior showperson.


SPECIAL NOTE - Causes for disqualification at any single fair are:

  1. Any unsportsmanship conduct is cause for disqualification.
  2. Assistance by any adult, parent, or outsider is cause for disqualification.

THE SCORING

  1. First place in the senior Fitting & Showmanship event will be scored as one (1) point, second place as two (2) points and so on.
  2. The best three (3) scores of the four fairs will count.
    * Each exhibitor should also notify their 4-H leader of their intent to compete for this trophy.
